This is just an example of how to make a loading bar using PHP and Javascript. You could use it when making an installer or something so the client has something nice to watch instead of having a small wait.
This does require the client side to have javascript enabled. But if you want you could just send them bits of text and (wait for it) images if you want, it's really up to you.

This is mainly just a proof of concept.
